Charlottesville is an independent city located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains adjacent to Albemarle County in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The city is named after Princess Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III of England. The area has an incredibly rich history that draws millions of visitors every year to Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, Ashlawn-Highlands, home of James Monroe, and Montpelier, home of James Madison as well as the renowned University of Virginia.
As of the 2009 census update, the city proper had a population of 41,750. It is the county seat of Albemarle County, though the two are separate legal entities as an independent City in Virginia. Charlottesville is best known as the home of the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson. The city is also home to Jeffersons’ Monticello, his renowned mountain-top home which overlooks the city from Monticello mountain. Tourists and visitors are increasingly attracted to the area’s growing wine industry as well as the increasing number of festivals and world-class entertainment. Many celebrities seeking privacy call the area home including past and present residents John Grisham, Sissy Spacek, the Dave Matthews Band, Jessica Lange, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, James Cameron, and Sam Sheppard.
The city is served by four airlines at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, Greyhound, and has daily service by Amtrak.
What is the Mundane Status Quo
The mortal authorities are clueless since Russell Bennett managed to cleanse the area of major supernatural influence in the 80s and 90s. Drugs are the impetus for most crime in the city, but it is relegate to the poorer areas and some neighborhoods around the university campus. The Downtown Mall is a major hangout for mortals and non-mortals alike.
What is the Supernatural Status Quo
Things have been relatively peaceful in the supernatural community of the Shenandoah Valley, especially in Charlottesville where Russell Bennett, the area’s warden has enforced a supernatural detente for the last three decades. The Order of the Holy Sepulchre, The Chi Phi Fraternity, Dirt First and White Court Vampires are known low powers/threats that had come to an understanding with or stayed off the radar of the now-deceased Warden, a powerful Wizard.
